Lecturer Capacity Building:

Making technology transformation tangible

  2. Participants: 13 including participation by TVET College lectures, SSACI, FOSH, SASOL Foundation, IOPSA, Blue Lever, Naledi 3D
  3. Challenges highlighted:
    • Need for a more structural, systemic approach for the capacity building of lecturers already in service
    • Lectures are not exposed to industry developments
    • Lecturers are not exposed to the latest education and training tools, mechanisms and technologies
    • Lecturers do not consistently attend training offers
    • Lecturers are interested in training that is aligned to their professional growth and career developments
  4. Potential Solutions:
    • Ensure that lecturer capacity building is aligned to industry needs and developments
    • Partner with Industry for provision of guest lecturers on core, critical elements linked to Industry developments
    • Work Integrated Learning by lecturers spending designated time in industry
    • Naledi 3D can provide technology-based training products for lecturer capacity building
  5. Possible next Steps:
    • SASOL Foundation able to provide and fund a platform for further discussions on lecturer capacity development
